Stone Temple Pilots Tour
Stone Temple Pilots, popularly known as STP, is an American rock band based out of San Diego, California. It is comprised of brothers Robert DeLeo (bass, backing vocals) and Dean DeLeo (guitar), Eric Kretz (drums, percussion), and Chester Bennington (lead vocals).
Ever since it was formed, its lineup remained unchanged up until the dismissal of lead vocalist Scott Weiland in 2013. At that time, Bennington of Linkin Park fame was introduced to the band as Scott’s replacement in the role of lead vocalist.
In 1986, long before they were known as STP, they were recognized by the name Mighty Joe Young. It was only when they contracted with Atlantic Records that they changed the name to Stone Temple Pilots.
STP tasted success early in 1993 after releasing their debut album Core, and became one of the most commercially successful bands of the 1990s.
Together, they released four studio albums: Purple (1994), Tiny Music…Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop (1996), No. 4 (1999) and Shangri-La Dee Da (2001) before going their separate ways in 2003.
STP reunited and in 2008 ventured on a reunion tour. They released a new self-titled album in 2010. Since then, they have been actively touring. The band also plans to record their seventh studio album which will be their first with Bennington.
The band has displayed a variety of influences in their music including psychedelic rock, bossa nova and classic rock. The band’s journey throughout the 1990s and early 2000s was a roller coaster ride involving several highs and lows with wide spread reporting of Weiland’s struggles with drug addiction.
