Frequently Asked Questions
What songs will Modest Mouse play in concert?
Modest Mouse is considered indie rock forbearers of the entire genre explosion in late 2010. Since 2009, the band has been rather quiet; touring sporadically and staying hush about any substantial new material. But 2014 marks the first time in a while the band finally seems on the brink of doing something, and the energy of the setlist is reflected with this new momentum.
Many surface fans may be shocked to see the group’s largest hit, “Float On,” is completely absent here. This is expected from long term fans that are familiar with Modest Mouse frontman, Isaac Brock and his distaste for the big pop song from 2004’s Good News for People Who Love Bad News.
Aside from this very consistent omission that comes across as a bit frustrating, Modest Mouse appeases most fans with an almost even split of tracks across their five main studio releases.
The group plays a number of songs from their stunningly atmospheric record, The Moon and Antarctica. The opening track is “Dark Center of the Universe,” which is a tour-de-force of crescendo guitar work and building instrumentation. The setlist also includes the melodic, “3rd Planet,” and the very rhythmic and pulsating almost dance song, “Tiny Cities Made of Ashes.”
Modest Mouse even dips into their mid-90’s material, which is quite surprising given how far they have come. This includes the debut’s most popular song, “Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset.” Fans of This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About , will also be stunned to see “Breakthrough” make an appearance on the set.
Ultimately, the setlist is a brilliant blend of material from their clean newer record, the under produced early stuff, and the atmospheric Moon and Antarctica. The group manages to cap it all off with some new songs, making for potentially one of the best setlists of their career.

Does Modest Mouse FINALLY play some new material?
Back in 2011, the group brought out two new songs for their live sets which were expected to appear on their sixth full-length album. But since then, the songs have almost completely disappeared from the set and no new news for a follow-up to 2007’s, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, has surfaced.
2014 marks the first time in a number of years that Modest Mouse has reliably provided new songs in a seemingly final version. New songs include “Be Brave,” “Shit in Your Cut,” and “Sugar Boats.”
Any surprises I should be aware of?
Aside from the new songs, Modest Mouse has a tendency to really drag out their encore. Whether the group even does an encore at all is not guaranteed. They have been known to exit the stage for 10 or so minutes, with the house lights on, only to return to a very slimmed down crowd.
In the case of Modest Mouse, the big ‘one more song’ chant actually matters. Also, the group’s frontman, Isaac Brock, has a tendency to talk a lot on stage, but it can be very hit or miss. As a matter of fact, that tends to define a Modest Mouse show.
How long is a Modest Mouse concert?
Modest Mouse often plays a lengthy set of about two hours in length.
Who is Modest Mouse’s publicist and press contact?
The group has been doing things on their own terms for a few years now. Modest Mouse began their own record label called Glacial Pace , and the irony is not lost on fans waiting 8 years for a new record. For any label or music related inquiries, contact the band’s label direct at info@glacialpace.com.
How do I get access to presale tickets for Modest Mouse’s tour?
There is really only one place to get presale tickets, and that is through the official Modest Mouse website. The band does things a little differently. First, no password is generally required, making presale password collecting resources a bit superfluous here. Second, the group often makes presale announcements through their social media feeds, and no fan club membership is required.
Stay close to the band’s updates to nab presales bright and early.
Concert Reviews
“That’s been it, so it was almost a surprise to get a proper Modest Mouse show at a high quality venue. The band hit the stage around 9 p.m. in soft acoustic mode, shuffling through “Gravity Rides Everything” before quickly lurching into the Pixie-ish screamer “Bury Me With It,” hinting that the Mouse could roar. Modest Mouse, six strong with double drummers, had some noisy fun with its surreal material, from the hard-edged “Satin in a Coffin,” sans banjo, to the joyful punk-funk of “Dashboard” and “Education.” – Scott Mervis of the Post Gazette
“Armed only with their Tempur-pedic rock, Modest Mouse (whose members could easily be mistaken for a bunch of roadies) performed a homespun hoedown that seemed appropriate for the open-air, muddy field setting.” – Christina Smart of the Examiner
“Curious though the group may be, most of the capacity crowd at the Uptown last night had unquestioning loyalty for the group, and the Mouse roared back with two drummers powering a crashing two-hour set and enough lighting action to guide a space shuttle home, though Brock’s performance all by himself was powerful enough to bring the Uptown’s gilded columns crashing down.” – Jason Harper of the Pitch
