Frequently Asked Questions
What songs will Black Sabbath play in concert?
2014 is the year for Black Sabbath, and fans are going to be flocking to the first major Black Sabbath tour in nearly 20 years. The group went on small tours in the mid 2000’s with the legendary Ronnie James Dio. The 2014 tour marks an extraordinary achievement with the return of vocalist Ozzy Osbourne who left the band in 1978 following the release of Never Say Die!
This is not to say that Ronnie James Dio’s stint as Black Sabbath frontman is not wonderfully appreciated by fans, but Osbourne was a founding member and recorded some of the group’s most iconic 70’s heavy metal tracks that remain classics of the genre to this day.
Not only is Osbourne back as the group’s front, but the group is using this opportunity to return deep into the Ozzy-era catalog. This means the setlist omits most recorded material from the 80’s and 90’s, and favors tracks from the self-titled debut and its follow-up, Paranoid. The setlist remains extremely consistent from one show to the next. Black Sabbath is not particularly known for switching things up, and considering their age and huge hiatus from touring and playing together, can you blame them?
The group opens with the monstrous “War Pigs.” Other major tracks, such as the iconoclastic “Iron Man” and “N.I.B,” appear at every show. The band always closes their shows with a bass thumping and crowd chanting modern rendition of “Paranoid.”
War Pigs
Into the Void
Under the Sun/Every Day Comes and Goes
Snowblind
Age of Reason
Black Sabbath
Behind the Wall of Sleep
N.I.B.
End of the Beginning
Fairies Wear Boots
Rat Salad
Iron Man
God Is Dead?
Dirty Women
Children of the Grave
Paranoid
Does the band play any material from their new studio album, 13?
The group went on a recording hiatus following 1995’s Forbidden. They recently released 13 to a lot of excitement despite the final album getting modest reviews.
The group brings out two new tracks. This is the leading single “God is Dead?” and the album’s respective opener, “End of the Beginning.” They both appear in the middle of the set to help with pacing before Black Sabbath dives right back into the 70’s material that encompasses the majority of the setlist.
How do I get access to presale tickets for Black Sabbath’s tour?
Presale tickets are available, but they are certainly not plentiful. Fans might still have an opportunity to snag some presales through American Express, but only a few select shows are available. Buyers need an American Express card, so if you do not already have one, you need to act fast. You also need an account with TicketMaster which can be made at the time of purchase.
Black Sabbath has a fan club offering presales on the official website, but they are very selective.
Who is Black Sabbath’s publicist and press contact?
Black Sabbath is in an interesting spot with management. Being away from the spotlight for close to twenty years has left a big management void. They are currently managed under Sharon Osbourne directly through her independent management status. She is, of course, the wife of Ozzy Osbourne.
Contacting Sharon Osbourne is not easy, but you may have luck contacting her small company, Sharon Osbourne Management. She may have someone on call to redirect and take messages.
You may also have some luck (indirectly) by signing up for the Black Sabbath official newsletter. The emails provided have a contact link and form at the end of the messages.
Concert Reviews
“Ozzy Osbourne may walk, totter, and occasionally run around the stage like a cross between a senior citizen and a mischievous toddler, but the music legend is still in fine voice these days….With his battle cry of, “Generals gathered in their masses…” echoing out amidst the slamming and bullish onslaught of opener Warpigs, there was no doubt this would be a real deal Sabbath show with the classic line up back together again.” – Scott Kara of the New Zealand Herald
“[The Big Bang of heavy metal] was buried in the slow, menacing guitar lines of guitarist Tony Iommi, and propelled by Geezer Butler’s cavernous bass lines. And it was in the unholy yowl of Ozzy Osbourne, 64, shuffling along the stage like a retired vampire in search of a blood nurse, who long ago moved beyond a parody of himself to become a virtual trademark in black.” – Randall Roberts of the Los Angeles Times
“With the smell of weed high in the air, I watched Black Sabbath on what would likely be their last tour. All things considered, they sounded fantastic–though I would have preferred Dio at the helm–and Ozzy largely defied years of drug and alcohol abuse by running, jumping, and throwing massive buckets of water into the audience. Was I satisfied? You bet.” – NA of the Metal Adviser
